Obama, accessibility, Standards

Even I will admit that Mr Obama might have more pressing things on his agenda than open web standards once Mr Bush is pretzeled with extreme prejudice later today.

I was glad to hear (from Molly) that the aptly named www.change.gov has an accessibility policy which says

The Obama Administration has a comprehensive agenda to empower individuals with disabilities in order to equalize opportunities for all Americans…

This commitment to accessibility for all begins with this site and our efforts to ensure all functionality and all content is accessible to all Americans.

So I was a little baffled to see that the inauguration will be streamed using Microsoft Silverlight.

But he’s not prez yet. Let’s hope for some technological openness once the troops are out of Iraq, Guantanamo Bay is shut, all yankees have health care and Messrs Bush, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz are in the same prison as Tony Blair.

Bruce,
What would you have him stream with? I mean flash is just as proprietary isn’t it (I may have missed something), although it is out for far more platforms at the moment.

I guess they had to pick something and went for reduced bandwidth costs (the streaming auto-negotiation stuff), as opposed to the one with the biggest reach.

Looks like I was a bit previous; it’s also being streamed with Flash etc so it’s not *just* Silverlight.

Excuse me– I’ve just seen a conclusion and need to go and jump at it.
